Intimate And Abstract
More and more, I am drawn to the small scene. The small scene, the intimate landscape, the close-up, the abstract, the detail. Call them what you will. For me, these images are characterised by a number of things: no sky, the mundane, the everyday and the things you'd normally just walk by. I find them fascinating and challenging. They are certainly a lot more difficult images to make than the pretty picture of beaches and landscapes. They require very precise composition: millimetres matter! Also, it's not enough just to point your camera at something on the ground; they have to have some reason to be photographed. Whether it is colour combinations, a flow to the scene, the light, the texture, or whatever, there has to be something that incites interest.
